Payments Meets AI: What's Next for Banks and Fintech
On 24 September 2026, we brought together the financial community for our Meetup in collaboration with Timelex, exploring how the latest developments in payments, open banking and artificial intelligence are reshaping financial services.
The discussions examined the rapid changes in how we pay, access financial services and use data. Across Europe, regulatory developments such as PSD3, the Payment Services Regulation (PSR) and FIDA provided the backdrop for conversations about the future of payments, while agentic commerce raised new questions about how AI could transform the way payments are initiated and financial services are delivered.
What could the next generation of payments and open banking look like? How should financial institutions prepare for the changing regulatory landscape? And as AI agents move from assisting consumers to potentially acting and transacting on their behalf, what could this mean for banks, fintechs and payment providers?
We explored these questions with experts from across the European financial and legal ecosystem, starting with a keynote from Inge Van Israël of Axepta BNP Paribas Benelux, followed by two expert panels focusing on Payments & Open Banking and Agentic Commerce & Payments.
